About

Hi There!

I have always had a dual interest in the culinary world as well as in the realm of Architectural Studies. I felt the need to choose between one or the other. As I got older, I realized I was simultaneously accomplishing both without even realizing it.

My academic career has been focused on Architectural Preservation, whereas serving in and observing restaurants has always been a passion. At Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, I began to understand how these two subjects integrated.

As human beings, there are three things that are essential for survival: water, food, and shelter. Funny though, how they are rarely discussed in relationship to one another. The interaction between food and architecture is especially worth a further look at.

Real life examples of these interactions are everywhere and embedded in our lives. From the way we prepare our dinners every night in the kitchen, to the oldest butcher shop in New York City, and how older structures with businesses like it remain an important needle that weave modern communities together⏤All are important phenomena to evaluate.

I hope to explore the relationships between food and the fabric that surrounds us in multiple disciplines to further our understanding of implementing sustainable practice to aid in future world issues like climate change and over construction.

I also just very much enjoy food and travel, so I figured a blog would allow me the freedom to deal with these subjects separately as well, with recipes, travel recommendations, and reviews. I hope this site will reach people with a love of food, architecture, or both!

Sincerely,

Victoria Pardo
